If you are a British author, writing in the English language, life is a constant struggle against those who wish to impose other versions onto you. Even on social media platforms, I can often feel like a cultural minority, marginalised by my happy use of the letter ‘u’, my reversal of other’s ‘er’ into ‘re’, and the insistence of my spell checkers that I should be writing ‘marginalized’ (and every such words) with the ‘z’ at all times.
I write my stories in British English, and for that reason I proclaim my stance at he start of each and every book.
It may not be the world norm these days, especially for the larger book market in the English language.
But it is my language.
